The United Methodist Women (UMW) of Hilltop Methodist Church has been hosting a semi-annual Children’s & Maternity Sale since 1994. The sale serves the community by connecting sellers of quality children’s and maternity itmes with local bargain seekers.
Funds raised, as well as unsold items from the sale, are donated to numerous charitable organizations throughout the Salt Lake Valley.

In the Spring and Fall of each year, the entire church is transformed into a hot spot to find great deals! Hilltop’s Children’s & Maternity Sale features baby, kids and maternity clothes, accessories, shoes, toys, books, games, furniture, equipment, seasonal items (ski pants, Easter/Christmas clothing, Halloween costumes) and much more, all at a fraction of retail price.

 How can you help?

 Volunteer Opportunities
Set Up – This takes place Wednesday evening. You need to be able to do some heavy lifting, carrying & possible furniture construction. Your willingness to stay until the job is done is GREATLY appreciated. Men are most appreciated on these shifts for the heaviest chores - Sending a husband counts as your work shift!

Check In – Thursday is when consignors check in their merchandise. The Check In volunteers are asked to pay attention to detail, inspecting for proper tagging and packaging. Volunteers must thoroughly inspect incoming merchandise and NOT permit dirty/torn or broken goods into the sale. This is crucial to maintain our reputation for HIGH quality items.

Item Merchandising – Needs to be able to make continuous trips up and down stairs, carrying numerous items. Also attention to detail is requested for placing items into their correct categories and pulling out any merchandise which is torn/dirty/not working.

Cashier – Be confident and accurate counting money and returning change to customers. Cashiers use our simple computer program and bar code scanners to calculate sales, print receipts and coordinate with baggers.

Scanner – Be meticulous, scanning items in a timely fashion so queues do not form. Scan items correctly with nothing being missed or double scanned. At times of heavy traffic, scanners must coordinate timing with cashiers and baggers.

Bagger – Placing scanned items neatly into bags and helping customers out with their purchases.  Work closely as a team with cashiers and baggers to get customers and purchased merchandise out the door.

Security – Men are most appreciated for these shifts, making sure only purchased merchandise leaves the building.

Escort - Especially needed Thursday evening at the pre-sale, volunteers assist customers transfer purchased goods to their vehicles.

Breakdown – As with Set-up, you should be able to do some heavy lifting and carrying and be willing to stay until the job is done. Sort unsold items into piles for various charities or place them in the pick up boxes for the consignors. Since the church must be in ready condition for Sunday morning services, this also includes putting furniture back in place, vacuuming and tidying up. Men are most welcome to help with the heavier items!
